This training method is called "Accelerated Freefall" because the learning process is three to five times faster than with traditional programs. The AFF method is designed to provide concentrated, individualized instruction for the student who is seriously interested in becoming a skydiver. All AFF jumps are made from 10,500 feet or higher above the ground. This will allow from 50 to 70 seconds of freefall learning and practice. On the first jump in the AFF method, the student is shown stability and has the opportunity to practice it with direct assistance and with a larger time frame than other methods. The student makes 3 practice pulls and then the actual pull to begin parachute deployment. If needed the AFF jumpmaster may provide direct assistance in the deployment of the parachute. With the AFF program more learning takes place in fewer jumps. Student progress through the seven levels of AFF depend on the student's individual learning pace and not on an arbitrary number of jumps. This program is structured so that satisfactory performance at one level is necessary for advancement to the next.
